One of the primary causes of a toxic workplace is an authoritarian leadership style. This is characterized by an overbearing boss or supervisors, who are inflexible and unwilling to listen to the ideas of their employees. They tend to micromanage their employees and create an atmosphere of fear and intimidation.

When I was married it was fun listening to him talk to his friends out state, mother, father, sister, etc. Later, I found out he wasn’t – he was literally spending hours making up both sides of the conversation. I figured it was just him….but later, I had a business partner that would yell and scream at other people to do what he said without any arguing. It finally dawned on me that he was just being an asshole to see if he could get a reaction out of me – or perhaps saying things he wished he could say to me.

Finally, I have a client that loves to hear himself talk, but I recently realized when he was having a real conversation I could hear the other person, or he has them on speakerphone.

I’m not really sure of the psychology behind it – have you dealt with people who have fake calls? Why, avoidance? Bragging? Pyschosis?
